Welcome to the Iosco County Prosecuting Attorney's Office web page!
The Iosco County Prosecutor is a statutory, mandatory position. The Prosecutor is elected every four
years. The Prosecuting Attorney, Gary W. Rapp, is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the County of
Iosco, and as such, he has a far range of duties. The Iosco County Prosecutor is also responsible for
other matters which are not criminal in nature. All of the Prosecutor's duties are statutory, and the
following is a partial list of what the Prosecutor's Office covers:
- CRIMINAL
- · Issuance of all felonies in the County of Iosco.
- · Issuance of all misdemeanor complaints in Iosco County.
- · Issuance of all search warrants in Iosco County.
- · Prepare files, secure witnesses for trials and proceed to trial on all matters
ranging from speeding tickets to First Degree Murder cases.
- · To handle Probate Court matters, which include all misdemeanors and felonies
committed by a person 16 years old or younger.
- · To provide victims of violent crimes or felonies with Crime Victim Rights information.
- · To go to sentencing on criminal matters to provide the Court with any victim's
input or any special requests made for the People of Iosco County.
- CIVIL
- · The Prosecutor works with the Department of Humans Services
to bring to court neglectful or abusive parents and try them accordingly.
- · To terminate parental rights when a case is deemed appropriate by the Prosecutor and
bring the matter to hearing in Probate Court.
- · To pursue putative fathers of children born out of wedlock to establish their
paternity and enter an order of filiation and child support, which assists the State of Michigan and the
Friend of the Court Office in their duties, these endeavors reduce the amount of assistance paid by the
People of the State of Michigan for these children.
